Sales Training – Opening the Sales Process

February 11th, 2010 Posted in Retail Training, Sales Training, Small Business

Training your sales staff is something a lot of small business’s just don’t do, they employ people who have a “sales” background and expect them to go out into the market place and “do the job” but why make it such a hit or a miss process especially if the sales person is not that skilled; where will it leave your company, no sales = no income; no income = no business!!

retail AssistantOur brains are such powerful mechanisms that they can assess a person, situation, object in as little as 3 seconds and by 20 seconds the brain will have decided what type of person it is looking at, whether the situation it finds itself in is a friendly or safe one or whether it likes the look of a particular object.  Consider one study in which untrained subjects were shown 20- to 32-second video-taped segments of job applicants greeting interviewers. The subjects then rated the applicants on attributes such as self-assurance and likeability. Surprisingly, their assessments were very close to those of trained interviewers who spent at least 20 minutes with each applicant.
What does this mean for someone who is trying to sell their product or service? It means you have to take care of the detail, from how you dress, what you say and how you say it, to the reputation of your company / brand and of course your smile :-)

It is vitally important that your sales team get it right first time every time to ensure the best possible chance of converting any sales lead / inquiry into an actual sale.

That means as a business owner you have a responsibility to ensure that your entire sales team are fully trained in how YOUR business does business and how YOUR business sells its products.

It’s too expensive to send my staff on training courses, I can’t afford to have them off the job”
